Along with thecontinuous growth of Japan's economic power, great progress has been made and newfeatures are displayed in Japan's trade with Third World Countries: (1) Though thetrade between them has been restored and developed, its percentage accounting for Japan's total foreign trade is decreasing. (2) The development of Japan's trade withdifferent regions in the Third World is seriously imbalanced because of the affectionof historical, political, geographical and economic foctors. (3) Trade deficit hasturned into trade surplus, on Japan's side. (4) Japan's exports are mainly manufac-tures while its major imports are raw materials, but the proportion of the rawmaterial imports is gradually declining and that of the manufactures imports con-tinously increasing. In the 1990s, the trend of Japan's trade with different re-gions in the Third World are as follows: (1) Following the expansion of Japan'strade with Southeast Asia, the trade friction between them will be aggravatedand Japan's trade surplus will be reduced step by step. (2) Japan will takeeffcrts to expand its trade with West Asia and to narrow its trade deficit, butthe process will not be smooth because of the complicated and changeable situ-ation in the Middle East and the Uncertain oil price. (3) Japan's trade With Southand Central American countries and Africa will go on growing, however, the traderelations between them can hardly be greatly improved since the economy in theabove-mentioned areas is restricted by various unfavourable elements.
