Tomb 269 is located in the area of the Yin Ruins, some 3.5km southwest of Xiaotun Village, about 300m east of Qijiazhuang and around 1km south of Meiyuanzhuang Village. Its excavation was started on October 28th, 1984 and ended on November 12th, the same year.Being well preserved, the tomb was discovered to be rich in material data, with the potiery, bronze, jade, bone and other objects unearthed totalling 73. The bronzes number 58 (28 inscribed), of which 23 are ritual vessels and musical instruments, including 14 types: ding (tripod and tetrapod ), yan (tripod steamer), lei (vase with a cover), gui (basin for food), jia (tripod with a loop car), zun (beaker), you (wine container with a swing handle and a lid), yi (wine container), gu (cup), zhi (goblet), jue (trilegged cup), dou (ladle), lid and nao (percussion instrument with a socket ai the bottom). Such a complete set of ritual and musical bronzes is of very great importance for studying the periodization of the Shang Dronzes and the hierarchy of the Shang society. The fang-ding tetrapod with tao-tie mask, ding tripod with kui-gragon design on legs and double-eared circular gui basin, carinate-shouldered large zun beaker and covered square yi wine container with tao-tic mask, all shaped distinctively and decorated exquisitely, are among the rare ronzr treasures from the Shang period. The tomb belongs to the third phase of the Yin Ruins and can be confined in date to the reigns of Wu Yi and Wen Ding.
