Inventory Rigidity as Long-term Incentive to Enterprises

Structural dislocation is held by the author of the present article as the cause of rigid cost, which in turn leads to the loss incurred by large numbers of Chinese enterprises. The underlying mechanical factor of such a sequence lies in the absence from the industry of a self-adjusting mechanism. Therefore, argues the author, attempts must be made to bring about the self-adjusting mechanism in the industry to remedy the defects in the operational mechanism of the economy. Finally he gives a review of the adjustment of inventories as practised in foreign countries and the restrictions to which such adjustment might be subjected in China's present system.
