The cemetery is located about 1.5 km southeast of Dadunzi Village in Wangtuan Township of' Tongxin County, Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region. During August-September, 1985, 27 tombs were excavated. Twenty of them are rectangular vertical pits, six catacombs and one with a pebble frame along the walls of the pit. The tombs of adults mostly have a small niche in the northern wall and all have a coffin made of wood. The dead lie in an extended supine position, with the head pointing to the north. All tombs are of single burial. In the tomb passages of the catacombs were discovered unequal numbers of ox and sheep skulls and hoofs with foot bones. The funeral objects unearthed from these tombs total over 1500 pieces, including pottery, bronze, iron, gold, stone and bbne objects. The pottery vessels are all wheel.made pots decorated with bowstring, wavy-line and cord patterns and mostly of black clay ware. The bronze objects include belt plaques, rings, tube-like ornaments, a knife, small bells and wuzhu coins. The belt plaques number twenty one and they are decorated with openwork or relief double-dragons, double-camels, double-horses, tiger-torn deers, tortoise-and-dragons, sword-wearing warriors, and horse-drawn carriages with human figures in them The iron objects consist of knives, an axe, rings and belt headpieces. In addition, there are beads of fvarious materials and gold earrings.Judging from the large number of wuzhu coins unerthed from the tombs, it can be inferred that the cemtery dates from the middle and late periods of the Western Han Dynasty. The pottery pots with wavy-line patterns and the bronze belt plaques decorated with various animal and human, figures exhibit clearly characteristics of the Xiongnu Culture and the tombs must belong to members of the Xiongnu Nationality of the middle and late periods of the Western Han Dynasty.
