Wu Changshuo was a versatile master artist skilled at poetry writing, calligraphy, Chinese painting and sealengraving, especially his seal characters which are unique in the world.His specical artistic quality and style was formed by his special social background, his personal experience and his personality. After many years of efforts, he succeeded in engraving his “Stone Drum Characters”, the characters of which are unparalleled in history and which has become the important feature of Wuchangshuo’s art system. In the present world the arts of calligraphy and painting develop most vigorously, but it is necessary for us to further study Wuchangshuo’s seal characters from which we can get some revelations, which will help us in the appreciation and development of arts.
