This paper presents the discussion on the generalized science technology assessment, which is focused not only on the developments of science and technology themselves but also on their positive and negative effects on the whole econcmy, society and environment. The generalized science-technology assessment is a new kind of technology asseesment which is a important means to keep the developments of science and technology benefiting the mankind. In the paper, the history, current situation, methodology, and tendency of technology assessment are in detail surveyed, too.
