THE CURRENT PROBLEM OF PEACE AND SECURITY IN SOUTH ASIA

当前南亚的和平与稳定受到三个重要因素的影响:一是超级大国对南亚及印度洋的争夺,特别是苏联占领下的阿富汗至今是一个“热点”;二是地区内部印度与巴基斯坦等邻国的关系复杂多变,时紧时松;三是有些国家内部种族、教派等矛盾激化,出现了局部性动荡。但是南亚形势仍属相对稳定,有利于和平的因素正在增长。

The peace and stability in South Asia at present are influenced by threeimportant factors:the rivalry between the superpowers in South Asia and theIndian Ocean,especially over Afghanistan which is under the Soviet occupationand remains a“hot spot”,the complicated and highly changeable relations,which get relaxed or tense now and then,between India and its neighbouringcountries including Pakistan within the region and the intensification of ethnicand communal contradictions in some countries which have led to local upheavals.Nevertheless,the situation in South Asia is on the whole relatively stable.Factors conducive to peace are growing.
