Optimal Match-ups of Competitors for Tournaments in Non-Contact Sports

长期以来,非直接对抗性体育比赛,大都是采用分项抽签来决定比赛顺序,这一方法只能是抽签的机会均等,而抽出的结果并不均等。由于没有法定编排法的约束,一些主办比赛的单位,在编排上做文章,违背公平、合理、均等的准则,造成意见分歧,影响比赛的顺利进行和运动员技术水平的正常发挥。作者根据优选法、系统论及运筹学的基本理论,采用排列与组合的方法,设计出一种各队出场顺序均等或极限均等的编排表。

Over the years the match-ups for a tournament in a non-contact sport have been mostly determined by the method of draw which provides equal chances only in the way the lots are drawn but not in the actual results obtained from it. Taking advantage of this defect, some tournament organizers have got up to little tricks in conducting draws in violation of the principle of fair play. This has often given rise to quarrels and adversely affected the operation of the tournaments and the normal performance of the competitors.Based on the basic principles of the optimum seeking method, the systems theory and operational research, and by adopting the method of permutation and combination, the author of this paper has devised a series of tables for matchups which will ensure all competitors equal chances in the order of appearance in a tournament.
