《历代名画记》卷七记梁代三个外国画家,依次为: 僧吉底俱,外国人,中品。僧摩罗菩提,亦外国人,中品。僧迦佛陀,中品。禅师天兰人,学行精悫,灵感极多。初在魏,魏帝重之,至隋,隋帝于嵩山起少林寺,至今房门上有画神,即是迦佛陀之迹。见《续高僧传》,存《(艹佛)蒜国人物图》、《器物样》、《外国兽图》、《鬼神画》,并传于代。姚最云:“已上三僧,既华夷殊体,亡以知其优劣。
Through an examination of relevant materials Mr. Wu identifies three In-dian or Central Asian Buddhist painters referred to by different names in someancient Chinese books, and verifies a painting produced by one of thepainters. He reads the painters' names as and in the order of Buddha, Kirti andKumarabodh (or Kumarabudh) and takes the preceding words 'seng jia', i e.Samgha in Sanskrit, to mean 'Bhikkus'.
