The writer of this article makes a study of this world--famous collectionof religious lyrics by Rabindranath Tagore. He tries to interpret the poet'sreligious thinking and philosophy in the light of the collection and also dis-cusses the artistic and aesthetic values of the masterwork. He discerns in thecollection a synthesis of sophisticated philosophical reasoning and intoxica-ting poetic flavour, which merits its ever--lasting popularity.
