摘要
宋应星(公元1587年——?)字长庚,江西奉新县人,出身于一个小官僚家庭;崇祯七年(公元1634年)任江西分宜教谕,《天工开物》一书即在任分宜县教谕时写的;崇祯十一年(公元1638年)任汀州府推官,十四年(公元1641年)任亳州知州。明亡不仕,死于清顺治年间。《天工开物》一书原尚有《观象》、《乐律》两卷,后经作者删去,其原因宋氏自序说是“其道太精,自揣非吾事,故临梓删去”。《天工开物》一书初刊于明崇祯十年(公元1637年),就是序中所说的涂伯聚原刊本。
The Tiengong Kaiwu(“Nature's Work and Engineering”),one of the most imporrtant scientific history works,written by a scientist Song Yingxing in the Ming Dynasty,introduces the production and technology related to agriculture and handicraftr industries in ancient China.This work,in which the Volume of Mining and Metallugy including Metals Processing accounts for about one fourth of the space,has spread far and wide the world over. On the basis of the original block-printed edition,donated by Mr.Li of Ningbo City in 1952 in the library Mohailou,a review is given by the author of the Mining and Metallurgical Volume,and the defecs and shortcomings are picked out and corrected as well.In addition,it is pointed out that since the riginal edition has been lost for quite a long time,the copies circulating in Japan and other countries are all facsimile,but not the genuine ones.
