This paper expounds the origin,background and development of the embedded librarian service,analyzes the different points between the embedded service and the traditional library service.The authors also examine the pattern of the establishment and the proceeding steps to implement the embedded librarian service program,and point out the necessity and feasibility to carry out the embedded service in academic libraries.
