On the Formation of Christian Pilgrimage Network and Its Superposition with Trade Routes

西欧中世纪社会民众的生活范围相对狭窄,长途贸易受到诸多限制,人们的交流与旅行以朝圣方式居多,但十字军东征以后,城市的兴起、商路的扩大和商品的增加提高了商人在社会交流中的作用,贸易路线也逐渐固定下来,于是朝圣者多选择已经存在的贸易路线,同时一些相对持久稳定的朝圣路线也由于朝圣规模扩大而被商人利用。贸易路线也经常与朝圣路线相重合。

Public life of the medieval society was relatively narrow,and long distance trade had been restricted.Pilgrimage was the main form for people to communicate and travel.But after crusade,the rise of the city,expansion of trade route,and the increase of goods improved the role of merchants in social communication.Trade routes also gradually became stable.Therefore,many pilgrims chose to use existing trade routes.At the same time,some relatively persistent pilgrimage routes were also used by traders with the increasing scales of pilgrimage.Trade routes also often overlap with pilgrimage routes.
