English Translation of the Water Imageries in the Ancient Poetry Concerning the Three Gorges of the Yantze River

长江三峡因其特殊的地理和文化背景,在古代文学中占有特殊的地位。长江水意象大量出现在古代诗歌中,具有丰富的意蕴。但是因为不同社会文化和个人经验的积累构建的意象虽有相似,也有出入,所以不同文化背景的语言使用者对诗人表达同一个意象会有不同的理解,因此,英译三峡古诗词时,对或表达安逸失意心境,或比喻感情的深长,或传达人生抱负水意象的传递不容忽视。

The Three Gorges of the Yangtze River,plays an important role in ancient Chinese literature,due to its unique geographic and cultural connotations.Water is often employed to embody the imageries of poets’ leisurely life,sentimentality,everlasting friendship,and life ambitions.But how to convey these imageries is often considered to be a primary task in English translation due to the fact that people from different nations with different cultural background may understand the same imageries differently.
