中国古代形神理论研究的范围主要涉及以下几个方面:关于形神理论在哲学领域里的发展演变过程,关于形神理论借助"人"这一特殊中介从哲学领域向文学艺术领域的转化过程,关于形神理论在音乐、绘画、书法等艺术领域中的发展演变过程,关于形神理论在诗歌、散文、小说、戏曲等文学领域中的发展演变过程,关于文学形神理论和艺术形神理论之间的互渗和融合以及关于文学艺术创造实践中的形神关系。

The range of research on Chinese ancient shape-spirit theory maily involves the following aspects:the processes of development and of the theory in the domain of philosophy;the transformation course of the theory from the domain of philosophy to the region of literature drawing support from human beings;the processes of development and evolution concerning the shape-spirit theory in the field of art such as music、drawing and calligraphy and of literature such as peom、prose、novel and opera;the permeation and merger of the literature shape-spirit theory and the art shape-spirit theory,as well as the shape-spirit relationship with regard to literature and art creation in practice.
