On Indigenous Prevention of Fire Disasters in Dong Villages

传统社会侗寨聚落发生火灾的频率、损毁程度远比现在低,主要归功于侗族应对火患的本土知识体系的正常运作。其效用迄今仍具生命活力,确保了大部分古老家园及其原生态民族文化,免遭火魔吞噬;重新审视和利用其预防、减少火患的文化功能作用,并与现代消防设施、技术相容互补,有助于当前侗寨防火工作收事半功倍之绩效。

Thanks to normal operations of indigenous knowledge systems in preventing fire disasters,Dong villages in the traditional society saw lower frequency and less serious damage of fire disasters.Its effectiveness is still of vitality up to now,which has ensured that most of the ancient homeland and its originally ecological ethnic culture have been exempted from the fire disasters.Thus,it helps to get twofold results with half the effort in current Dong villages’ fire prevention to re-examine and utilize its cultural function in preventing and reducing fire disasters,and to complement it with modern fire-fighting facilities as well as technology.
