摘要
许渊冲先生在自身诗歌翻译实践的基础之上,借鉴前人研究成果,提出诗歌翻译"三美论"。这对中国古诗词的英译具有重大的指导作用。《葬花词》是曹雪芹在《红楼梦》中为林黛玉感叹身世遭遇而写的一篇重要作品,以其绚丽的意象、悲愤的格调、优美的文辞、铿锵的音韵传唱至今。运用"三美"理论对比赏析《红楼梦》2个经典英译本对《葬花词》的"意美""音美""形美"的传达,探讨两位译者所采取的不同翻译策略,便于论证许渊冲先生的"三美论"在中国古典诗词翻译领域的适用性。
Based on his translating practice on poetry,Xu Yuanchong assimilates the achievement of his predecessors and proposes the"Three Kinds of Beauty"theory,which has a profound significance on the translation of Classical Chinese poetry.Elegy on Flowers is a representative work written by Cao Xue qin in A Dream of Red Mansions for lamenting the wretched fate of Lin Daiyu.It has been handed down up to now on account of its magnificent images,gloomy style,flowery diction and musical cadence.This paper is conducted by a comparative study towards the two English versions of Elegy on Flower with"Three Kinds of Beauty"as its theoretical basis and we analyze the reproduction of the image beauty,musical beauty and formal beauty of the original poem from the perspective of translators’ strategies.In light of the above effort,we try to prove the applicability of Xu Yuanchong’s"Three Kinds of Beauty"in the field of Classical Chinese poetry translation.
