On Translating Chinese Wine Culture with Focus on English Translation of The Scholars

《儒林外史》是中国十大古典小说之一,具有鲜明的民族文化特色。作品中着墨甚多的酒饮描写,蕴含着丰富的酒文化内涵,亦成为该小说的一大亮色。笔者通过对杨译版《儒林外史》中酒文化的译例举隅,体现杨氏夫妇在译介这些酒文化信息时,始终站在文化传播的高度,遵循以中国文化为出发点和归宿的原则,将作品中酒文化忠实准确地传递给目标语读者。这无疑在文化背景迥异的英语读者面前呈现与诠释了一种全新的文化,促进了不同文化的相互交流与融合。

As one of China's greatest classics, The Scholars is definitely rich in national elements. In an effort to disseminate Chinese wine culture, Yang adopted some flexible translation approaches to render the wine cultures. In so doing, it facilitates the targetlanguage readers' understanding and appreciation of the unique wine culture in this novel. As such, the translation is conducive to the fusion of different cultures to a large extent.
