摘要
本期刊发的刘临安《中国古代建筑的纵向构架》一文,有助于更深入地认识我国早期建筑技术发展过程中的某些关键性的环节。
The ancient Chinese wooden buildings were generally of a horizontal or plane structure chiefly composed of pillars and beatns. However, at an early stage of China' s architectural developments vertical structure,as has been evinced by the architectural archaeology of the Shang-Zhou period, had existed over a long time in the middle valley of the Huanghe River. Its gradual replacement by a horizontal structure marks not only a technical improvement in frame-structure, but also a bettered understanding in terms of architectural mechanics. A dozen buildings of a vertical structure extant in Shaanxi and Shanxi in the middle valley of the Huanghe River are mostly from the Yuan dynasty. The research of the vertical structure will deepen our understanding of some key links in the early history of architectural development in China. A comparative study is made in this essay on the vertical and horizontal structures.
