Abstract The article presents a comprehensive detailed introduction to the growth and development of the theory of the life circle of tourist destinations, the causes of the life circle of tourist destinations and the effectiveness, potential uses, and various factors causing the evolution of tourist destinations, and at the same time it raises the polemic on the various aspects of the theory of the life circle after it has analysed the studies of the actual examples made abroad. the author maintains that every tourist destination would evolve and the theory of the life circle should be nothing but a theoretical hypothesis that reveals the evolution law of tourist destinations. The author, disagreeing with Yang Senlin over his statement that the life circle of tourist products is caused by the evolution of technical life, holds that what is important is the substitution competition among the products.
