The cooperation between the new South Africa and the other Southern African countries can be termed as a “Dominated Economic Cooperation”, whereas South Africa being in the center plays the dominant role while the other member countries, being on the periphery, play the complementary role. Depending upon the motives of the dominant country, the Dominated Economic Cooperation can again be classified into two different types: the Reciprocal Dominated Economic Cooperation and the Exploitative Dominated Economic Cooperation. Both may take place in the economic cooperation between the new South Africa and the other Southern African countries, but the “Reciprocal”one will likely be the trend of the times. On the one hand, it is the policy of the new South Africa, and on the other, it is also the essential for mutually maintaining the long term cooperation between the two sides. Of course, one must not overlook the negative factors which may affect the “reciprocal”type of cooperation, such as the disparity in developmental levels among the various countries, and the persistence of unstable elements in society etc. Certainly, a stable development on the part of the new South Africa itself is also a basis for such cooperation.
