《南史》说陶渊明田园生活是“夫耕于前，妻锄于后”，然于陶氏之作却极少让妻子露脸。除却《闲情赋》，而绝不涉乎情语。考察“情赋”源流及此赋序和篇末“尤《蔓草》之为会”、“遥情于八遐”，则此赋借爱情“永恒的主题”表达理想追求失败后的自谏；再综合其仕途经历观照，陶氏五官三休的痛自忏悔的自白。

he idyllic life of Tao Yuanming was described in the History of the Southern Dynasties as “the husband plows the land first, the wife hoes up the weeds then” However, his wife was seldom spoken of in Tao Yuanming′s poems. And no sign of love can be found in his works, except in On the Idle Pleasure. The prose poetry uses the so called eternal theme of love as a pretext to express his repenting of the failing in his ideal. Combined with his experience in the official career and his repenting of being an official and dismissed from office time and again, the prose poetry On the Idle Pleasure shows the true essence of Tao′s character.
