A Comparison between the "Sublime" and the "Vigorous

本文从中西文学和文论比较研究的角度，探讨中国传统文论的有关可选概念与西方传统的“崇高”范畴相比较的适切性问题，并强调“雄浑”在中国文论中的重要意义。同时，作者也借此提示这种比较的意义：它作为更大范围的比较研究的切入点，有助于深入理解中西文化总体语境的异同。

In the perspective of the comparative research of the Eastern and Western literature and literary criticisms, this paper inquires into the appropriateness of comparing the concept of the'sublime' in the tradition of the West with the selectable concepts in the Chinese traditional literary criticisms and then dwells on the important position that the 'vigorous'(Xionghun) concept holds in the Chinese literary criticism. Furthermore, the present study comes up with the significance of this comparison: it facilitates a deeper understanding of the similarities and differences of overall contexts of Chinese and Western cultures as a contact point of comparative researches to be conducted at a larger scale and in a wider scope.
