his paper is a brief review of research of discourse analysis in China in the past two decades. It covers research workers, findings and conferences in the field of discourse analysis. The following aspects are to be taken into consideration in future research: traditional “beyond the sentence” in Chinese; spoken Chinese; theoretical orientation and renewal of methodology in discourse analysis.
