Abstract In this paper the author argues that the wide spread and adoption of computers have resulted in changes in human linguistic communication and information exchange, and discusses changes in such factors as the addresser and addressee, the media, the motivation, and the context of situation. The author concludes that scientific progress plays an important role in and has deep impact on linguistic study and foreign language teaching.
