How to mark off the units of a given discourse? This is what should be solved in discourse analysis. The paper tentatively suggests three standards for unit demarcation of discourse, relatively integrated ideas and images, movements and events, concepts and logic, in correspondence with the three classes of discourse, expressive, reprensentational and cognitive. And in the illustration of these standards, the principles, features and implications of their application are expounded.
