1992年(10月12日)将是哥伦布首次航抵美洲的500周年,东西方世界都重视这一历史事件,将举行各式各样的纪念活动,联合国教科文组织也讨论过这一重大的世界性文化活动,并从文化交流历史的角度,支持用欧、美“两个大陆相遇500年”的提法进行纪念活动。一些直接有关的国家,如意大利、西班牙和美洲国家,已进行了多年的酝酿和准备,
The aim of this paper is to diffuse knowledge about Columbus to Chi-
nese on the occasion of the Quincentenary commemoration of Columbus' first
voyage to America. The Prologue and the text of Columbus'‘Journal on
Board’, as well as his letters to Sant' Angel etc. are reviewed to show the
intended goal of Columbus' first voyage was India and China. Chinese ear-
liest knowledge about Columbus and his great deed was found in Aleni's
‘Zhi-fang Wai-ji’. Finally the status of publications of Columbian knowle-
dge in China is reyiewed.
