Alliteration与“双声”异同探讨——向王宗炎教授请教

Discrimination Between Alliteration and“Shuangsheng”——Consulting Prof.Wang Zongyan

本文第一部分通过对比研究得出结论:alliteration 在历史上及当代语言实践中所起作用远远大于“双声”,第二部分同样通过对比研究论证了:alliteration所涵盖的定义内容只有极小的一部分才与汉语“双声”重合。笔者由此认为alliteration 译作双声是欠妥的。

The English figure of speech“alliteration”has been wrongly translated into“shuangsheng”(consonant-repetition)more than once,even by highly-accomplished scholars.This paper,inits first part,gives a comparative study,which leads to the conclusion that alliterationplayed a far more important role than“shuangsheng”in their respective histories as itdoes in their linguistic practice of the present time.The second part,also through acomparative research,dwells upon the fact that only a very small definition portion ofthe content covered by alliteration in English overlaps that of“shuangsheng”in Chinese.Hence the conclusion that it is not proper to render alliteration into“shuangsheng”.
