On Full-Verb Inversion in English

引言我们经常见到类如例(1)的句子: (1) [ ... The purpose of this paper is to determine the formal characteristics of full-verb inversion, and secondly, to explore the causes of such inversion. Certain factors that inhibit full-verb inversion arealso specified. The paper argues that, contrary to the proposal made by a number of well-knownscholars, thematic fronting is not necessarily the cause of full-verb inversion. Finally, the papertries to demonstrate that the backed subject in full-verb inversion represents new information andsuggests that newness is a necessary condition for such inversion.
