1988年2月出版的美国《新闻周刊》有一组专题报道,冠以大字标题“太平洋世纪”(The Pacific Century),惹人注目。而其中一篇关于洛杉矶的文章,更使人受到启发。作者现在洛杉矶一所大学当教授,对这里的“中国城”、“小东京”、“小西贡”、“韩国区”已有些熟视无睹,但并没有把这个巨大的城市放到21世纪——太平洋盆地的世纪去想、去看,真可谓“不识庐山真面目。

Los Angeles has become the economic and financial center of theU.S.west coast.Its economic development has also led to cultural prosperity and post—industrial style of work and life.The city's problems,though many,can be solved through decen-tralization.It is the author's view that Los Angeles could becomethe eastern capital of the Pacific in the 21st century.
