英语名词的属格有三种形式:[Np’s N] (i)[(Det)N of Np] (ii)[Det N of Np’s] (iii)如:John’s parents (1)(the)windows of my room (2)some friends of John’s (3)关于英语名词属格的用法,我国英语学界已有很多人发表文章做了总结。但是,名词属格的这三种形式间的对应关系还很少有人谈及。这并不意味着这方面的研究没有必要。我们用英语表达某一所属概念的时候,往往只拘泥于一种形式,对其它形式使用起来就不那么有把握。例如,表示“某人之某物”我们习惯于用形式(i),用了形式(ii)

The genitive case of English nouns can be in the form of an apo-strophe,an“of-phrase”,or a combination of the both.This paper willdiscuss about the intertransformability of the three forms in terms ofsemantic conditions and linguistic restrictions from the point of viewof modern linguisties.It is divided into three parts:1.the intertr-ansformation between the a,postrophe and the “of phrase”;2.the inter-transformation between the apostrophe and the double genitive;3.theintertransformation between the“of-phrase”and the double genitive.
