The authors of this paper deal with what they term nominal categorical data and ordinal categorical data which arecommonly seen in sports research. They also introduce a series of models called log-linear models, which can be used todescribe the correlation between nominal categorical variables, between nominal categorical variables and ordinal categoricalvariables, and between ordinal categorical variables. In addition, they recommend a structure for inference in statistical work.
