With descriptional survey on certain usual vibration problcms of the twostroke low-speed marine diesel engine, this article analyzes their causes and effects on the vibration of ship, and suggests some countermeasures. Each of the vibration modes such as torsional vibration and axial vibration of shafting system, external unbalanced moment of the engine and the H-type, Xtype, L-type vibration of main engine structure will give different effect on the ship vibration. The problem of vibration should be considered at the time of contract signing and solutions be seekcd during the stage of ship design so as to find out the most economical and practical solution. Otherwise it would be more complex and expensive to have post construction remedy.
