The paper is intended to erplore the fumction, the scope of application and limitation of con-texture in reading and translation. The author holds that correct understanding of the wholecontext is essential to the accurate acqusition of information and is helpful to extensive ieading, translation, and taking examinations. To take the whole context inio consideration can deepenunderstanding and avoid garbling a statement out of the context, thus laying a solid foundationfor a high quality translation However guessing the meaning of vocabulary merely from thecontext is not to be suggested.
