The author of this afticle focuses mainly on the ‘inevitable' Chinese characteris-tics of the translation of scientific and technical materials because of China's typicalsocial background and traditions. The author also points out the importance of takingTRANSLATION as one of the academic disciplines to the effect that more skillfultranslators be trained and better work be done to meet the needs of China's moderni-zation.
