摘要
生成语法研究在理论基础、理论性质、理论目标、理论方法和理论表达上表现出与以往任何一种语言理论完全不同的特点,构成了生成语法自身的理论特征.
The present paper provides a theoretical characterization of generative grammar. The author believes that any theory can be characterized in terms of (1) Philosophical (both ontological and epistcmological)foundation; (2) Theoretical goal or object of inquiry; (3) Theoretical nature, which tells whether it is a descriptive theory or an explanatory theory; (4) Methodology; (5) Theoretical representation. A truthful understanding of what is generative grammar and what generative linguists are doing cannot be obtained until the five theoretical features of generative grammar are captured.
