Symbolism of Female Characters in the Postcolonial Novels

后殖民主义小说是以殖民地及其人民为描写对象的文学作品。本文通过对康拉得的中篇小说《黑暗之心》,简·里斯的《藻海无边》以及爱德华·摩根·福斯特的《印度之旅》中女性意象进行举证分析,对女性意象在后殖民主义小说中的象征意义进行了归纳总结。

Postcolonial literature theory concerns itself with the following concepts: the oppressed feminist awareness in the subcultures, the culture inherited from the colonial periods, the native culture lost in the colonial periods, an equal right of discourse, the 'others' and the civilized savages. In the postcolonial novels, symbolism is an important way for the authors to develop their topics, among which female characters as symbols are especially widely used. In this article, the author will try to analyze the importance of female characters as symbols in the postcolonialist novels based on the novels: Hear of Darkness, Wide Sargasso Sea and A Passage to India.
