The current paper tries to discuss the development of sports science in three steps: first, the historical development of sports and the sport sciences is reviewed; second, predicious about the potential future developments are made; and third, supporting evidence for the suggested developments is provided. The relevant conclusions of this paper can be summarized as follows: 1. The future discipline of sports science should or will expand to a discipline of human move- ment science. 2. The future discipline of human movement science has a unigue opportunity to became, an important contributeo to the well -being of mankind.
