This article, beginning with a pair of typical examples which have been widely referred to since the 1950s by linguists, discusses the effect of the characteristics of the adjectives in SVC structure on sentence transformation, and describes why ' John is easy to please' can be transformed into ' It is easy to please John' while ' John is eager to please' can not be done in the same way. The author's proposal that the classification and characteristics of adjectives should be added to Chomsky's Category Base helps to accomplish the sentence auto-transformaton system in computer and to illustrate the deficiency of A Comprehensive Grammar of the English Language and Longman English Grammar in their discussion of the same subject.
