Over" and Beyond : A semiosis Approach

一、分析的意义和方法 本文对英语语词over的研究试图取得三个意义。一是认知学科意义,二是符号学意义,三是语言学意义。语言是一种内部系统,是人的认知系统的一部分,并和其它系统有一定的关联。Lamb(1991)和Lockwood(1972)将语言系统和其它认知系统的接口称作概念相关关系(con-ceptual correlations),Jackendoff(1983＆1990)则将该接口称作概念结构(Conceptual Structures)。虽然所用的术语不同,研究的理论框架不同。

This paper attempts to present a semiosis network to describe the locational preposition and adverb of ' over' in terms of realization from abstract image to sense. This approach not merely predicts the correct uses of the 'over' ,but also reveals some abstract semiotic relationship between over and across,around, along. This study also demonstrates the economical, explicit and general linguisitc account within the semiotic network.
