The author used to be general manager of China International Travel Service. He participated in the annualTourism Transaction Fair in Hongkong in June. During the fair he encountered quite a number of old friends in thetourist circles of Hongkong and Macao. These friends feel it more and more difficult to do travel business with theirmainland counterparts. The reasons for the change stem from both HK side and mainland side. This article is a summary of the opinions by his colleagues in Hongkong. They have stated the following four reasons: 1. The price advantage is diminishing;especially the soaring price of the plane tickets is worrisome. 2. There arequite a few problems in the software, the most prominent being unhealthy tendency and inadequate management. 3.There are usually insufficient safety guarantees and loose management in some places, which is likely to cause accidents. 4. The rules and regulations in the tourism industry are still not sound enough. This has,to a certain extent, influenced the concrete operations. The author thinks that so long as we conscientiously listen to these opinions and find ways to correct them,China's mainland tourism industry is sure to advance in greater strides.
