The article holds that the further development of China's tourist industry is confronting a great challenge;1 . China signed the final document of the Uraguary Round on April 15, 1994,committing itself to the gradual opening of themanagement of the tourist industry to the outside world. 2. China's goal is to earn US $10 billion foreign currency afew years earlier than the target originally set for the year 2, 000--an achievement that will place China among thehighest tourist developed countries in the world.This will require a substantial change in our product -- transforming our market from the current overseas lowconsumers ;coming for sightseeing and visiting relatives to overseas high--consumers;coming for holidaymaking,shopping and convention travel.Based on this,accelerating China's tourism service into the orbit of the international standards is imperative. Thearticle, after elaborating four international standards, focuses on the forms of China's entry into the orbit: First weshould acquire a knowledge of international standards through more intensive study and training,and then we must adhere to the quality consciousness of modern tourism service by implementing corresponding measures for quality control. This includes: 1. There is only good quality or bad quality;there does not exist 'better' quality or 'worse' quality. 2. The best way to ensure quality is to take precautions against errors. 3. Unfolding a campaign of 'impeccable service'. 4. Be quality-conscious in cost and revenue,and make preparations for appropriate investment.
