The article,based on the references of the coming third wave,or post-industrial civilization,gives a vertical andlateral thinking on some problems concerning China's tourism development.The article emphatically analyzes the first wave,i. e.,the return of agricultural civilization,the establishment ofthe social ecological equilibrium circle,industrialization and urbanization ; the constitution of 'the second nature' and itsrelations with tourism. It reveals that history is the reappearance of some seemingly familiar old scenes with newforms. This is a 'return to the past';a rising sprial;a connotation of the return to the nature of the third wave. It is ofvital importance to realize this for the future development of the tourism industry of our country.
