The upper layer contains the remains of rounded-angle square semi-subterraneans with doors facing south too and circular earthern fireplaces inside. Its pottery is roughly of the same ware as that of the lower layer, but talcum powder is contained more rare- ly,a burnished black sandy ware makes its appearance, the body is thinner, the firing temperature is lower, the dominant decoration is incised patterns, and the prevailing type is the cylindric jar with a contracted mouth. It dates from 6000—5500 BP and roughly belongs to the Middle Xiaozhushan culture.
