Abstract The year 1993 saw the 125th Anniversary of the birthday of Dr. W. E. Du Bois, the renoxx,ned Afro-American black scholar and old friend of the Chinese people.Throughout his brilliant life, Dr. Du Bois not only fought courageously for the freedom and emancipation of the blacks in A merica and Africa, but also dedicated himself to the U. S. -Chinese and Afro-Chinese people's mutual understanding and friendship as well as to the mankind's cause of justice, peace and progress, and for these he made great contributions and left over manybrilliant works. For the purpose of deepening the research and study of Dr. DuBois's works, the Chinese International Friends' Research Society has decidedto set up the'Du Bois Research Centre'. Its task is to unite with all thoseChinese experts, scholars and writers who are interested in the study of the black people's issues in Africa and America, and launch research on Du Bois's writings and thoughts in a planned way and with focal points;to translate andpublish Du Bois's works; to let the Chinese people, especially the young men and women know the history and current condition of the black people in Africa and America, their struggle for emancipation, equality,peace and development,thus deepening their understanding and friendliness toward the people in America and Africa, enhancing their solidarity and mutual support with them.
