Abstract The turbulence caused by the disintegration of the Soviet Union and the end of the cold war has been greater in Africa than in any other part of the world beside Europe. The change in African situation as well as its general trend not only concerns the future and destiny of Africa itself, but has direct impact on Sino-African relations, thus it is worthy of serious observation and study.Firstly, the trend of liberalization and privatization will dominate in African economic adjustment and refonm;Seoondly,demccratic, political structures which reflect African characteristics will gradually get into shape and develop in the course of prolonged upheaval; Thirdly, nationalism remains dominant in the multiplied ideologies; Fourthly, tile interwining of ethnic contradictions and party struggles will become the new'hot spots' in African politics;Fifthly, there is a danger that the Islamic Fundementalism might go southward down to the Black Africa; Sixth1Y, it has increasingly become the common understanding and practice for the African countries to combine efforts to make themselves stronger and for development; Seventhly, that South Africa's relations with other African countries tend to relax is now inevitable; Eighthly,African countries' foreign strategies tend to be more flexible and pragmatic;Ninthly, a new awakening is to emerge in Africa in predicament.
