AbstractSignificant changes have taken place in the Middle-East strategic pattern since the end of the Gulf War. First of all,the strategic positions of the major regional powers have seen different trends of ascendency or decline:Iraq has declined in its position, but it has tided itself over the most dificult period; Iran has become a major power in the Middle East, attracting the worldwide attention ; Turkey is ascending quietly, Israel, with its military superiority is now striving for an even greater economic superiority; Egypt has enhanced its role in the Middle East peace process. Secondly, relations of the US, Europe, Japan and Russia with the Middle East have undergone great changes as well: Following the Gulf War, the US has gained the dominant position and is actively working to establish a new Middle East Order with itself playing the dominant role; both Europe and Japan are speeding up their infiltration into the Middle East, and their influences are on rise;Russia is also making effort to return to the region.Despite the fact that co-operation remains the main side in the relationship among the US, Japan and Russia with regard to the Middle East affairs, contradictions and conflicts are however deepening. Their contradictions with the Middle-East countries arising out of control and counter-control are also bound to develop further.
