祝畹瑾《社会语言学概论》评介

Review of Sociolinguistics: An Introduction (Zhu Wanjin, 1992)

祝畹瑾教授研究社会语言学始于70年代末。她进行过“同志”和“师傅”的用法调查并发表了研究论文(Scotton ＆ Zhu,1983,1984;祝畹瑾,1984)。1985年出版她主编的《社会语言学译文集》,及时补充了国内社会语言学研究资料的不足(许国璋,1985)。几年来她不断研究、探索社会语言学,著述颇丰。特别是近年来发表的论述语言的市场价值的文章(Zhu ＆ Chen,1991),伍铁平教授认为“在国内具有开创性”,“对制定我国的经济、语文政策都有重大的参考价值”(通信)。正是在这一基础上,祝畹瑾教授编写了《社会语言学概论》

This textbook outlines major research findings in sociolinguistics in the English-speaking world as well as in China and presents in lucid language the fundamental areas of 'sociolinguistics' such as veriecies of language, speech as social interaction, language in contact and language planning. It devotes one long chapter to the quantitative research methods in sociolinguistics and emphasizes a scientific attitude throughout the book.
