Abstract This paper makes a study on this topic in the light of examples from some world-famous writers. It is said that style is deviation of the norm. Forms of deviation in the stylistic study can by no means be inclusive.It is necessary to establish a reference system including both the general norms and the individual norms in the use of language. The general norms may be based on the linguistic reference and the nonlinguistic reference;the individual norms may be based on context factors such as the relations between the participants.
