The role of proofreading in English proficiency test

一、引言 短文改错(proof reading),也译做阅读改错,是我国外语测试中较新的题型,近年来为一些大规模英语测试所采用,如新高考英语考试(NMET),专业英语四级考试(GTEM)等。

Proofreading, alongside with its modified form 'errorcorrection', has been gaining popularity in some large-scale English proficiency tests. This paper reports an investigation into the validity of an error-correction sub-test and that of the same sub-test in proofreading form. A correlational analysis shows that proofreading is a more valid and reliable integrative instrument than error-correcting in measuring over-all proficiency.
